Signe Ralkov
Shedding Season
06.11—18.11.20

Gallery Steinsland Berliner is proud to present Shedding Season, a solo exhibition by Danish artist Signe Ralkov. On view are a series of pencil drawings that portray the transformations and metaphoric skin shedding involved in the transition to adulthood.

Inhabiting the images are poetic representations of the artist, her friends and their surroundings in varying states of metamorphosis. Half protective scales, half smooth skin – the figures in Ralkov’s drawings carry a sense of danger, an unpredictability inherent to fervent youth.

The omnipresent colour blue refers to an early photographic printing process called cyanotope, a method used to produce low-cost prints which happened to be coloured cyan blue. In Ralkov’s imagery the reference is a nod to qualities lost or gained with the passing of time.

Signe Ralkov (b. 1997, Denmark) is currently studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. She lives and works in Copenhagen.

The exhibition will be installed in the gallery according to plan. In light of the recently elevated restrictions from The Public health Agency of Sweden, we wish to keep visitors in the physical space to a minimum. You are free to make a mindful visit to the gallery during the opening on Friday 06/11, but we urge you to instead partake in the exhibition from afar. You can do this by keeping up with our social channels or emailing info@steinslandberliner.com to receive images and information. The gallery is otherwise open by appointment. For the time being, we are not able to accept appointments for groups of more than 5 people.
